Moroccans on social media posted pictures and videos purportedly of people injured and assaulted by police during a demonstration by teacher trainees in the city of Casablanca against new plans to limit hiring in public education sector.
Chouaib Asri, one of the organisers of the demonstration, told the news website Al-Yaoum24 that 60 people were injured. But local authorities said no one was injured, adding that the demonstration was not authorised.
The opposition Unified Socialist Party wrote on Facebook that a local party leader had “a serious ankle injury after police repression” of the demonstration. Last month, police broke up most of the teacher trainee demonstrations across Morocco.
